The joint exhibition titled ” The world of Mongolian and Italian pastoralism: Surviving Climate Change and Modernity” officially opened at the National Museum of Mongolia on August 25, 2026. The exhibition is organized within the framework of cultural and scientific cooperation between Mongolia and Italy.
The opening ceremony was attended by key officials and dignitaries, including B. Bat-Erdene, State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, Tourism and Youth of Mongolia, and Giovanna Piccarreta, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Mongolia, along with other delegation members.
Organized in connection with the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification
(COP17) and the UN International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP), the exhibition offers a comparative view of pastoralism, nomadic lifestyles, traditional knowledge, and the intricate human-animal-nature relationship across the Mongolian steppes and Italy’s rural and mountainous regions.
The exhibition is co-organized by scientific and cultural organizations from both countries, including the Italian Ethno-Archaeological Association (AIE) and the International Association for Mediterranean and Oriental Studies (ISMEO).
The exhibition will remain open to the public at the National Museum of Mongolia through August 31, 2026.
