Turkhan Ajaloghlu, a visiting researcher at the International Institute for the Study of Nomadic Civilizations (IISNC) and a PhD candidate at the University of Aberdeen, successfully conducted year-long field research in Mongolia, studying the lifestyle and cultural characteristics of the Tsaatan/Dukha people.
He presented the findings of his research to the Institute’s scholars titled “Changing Mobility Patterns of Reindeer Herder Nomads in the Mountainous Taiga.”
He emphasised that the lifestyle of the Tsaatan people is distinct and unique compared to nomads in other regions of Mongolia.
His presentation also examined the impacts of modern changes such as tourism, economic pressures, and climate change highlighting the urgent need to protect and preserve the traditional nomadic way of life.
