The International Institute for the Study of Nomadic Civilizations (IISNC), under the auspices of UNESCO, is proud to announce the return of its flagship publication, the NOMADIC magazine. After a nine-year hiatus, the publication—which ran as the NOMADIC newspaper from 1999 to 2016—is back as a public magazine with a new look and an expanded vision.

The IISNC’s mission is to build a foundation for multidisciplinary research on nomadism, support scholars, and share the story of nomadic civilization with the world. In line with this goal, the first issue of the renewed NOMADIC magazine marks a historic milestone: the UN General Assembly’s proclamation, at Mongolia’s initiative, of 2026 as the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists.

This inaugural issue is a special edition dedicated to the “Nomadic World Cultural Festival.” Inside, readers will find captivating stories about nomadic tangible and intangible heritage, reflections on Mongolia’s vibrant civilization, and insights into the country’s collaboration with UNESCO.

We invite you to explore the richness of nomadic life through the pages of the NOMADIC magazine.
