THE WORLD OF MONGOLIAN AND ITALIAN PASTORALISM: Surviving Climate Change and Modernity
Born from the friendship and cooperation between Mongolia and Italy, this exhibition is part of the “The Camps of Mongolian Nomads – An Interdisciplinary Perspective” project.
The exhibition is jointly organized by the Italian Association of Ethnoarchaeology (AIE), ISMEO– The International Association for Mediterranean and Oriental Studies, and the International Institute for the Study of Nomadic Civilizations under the auspices of UNESCO (IISNC).
It brings together archaeology, ethnography, photography and the stories of herders to explore the pastoral traditions, knowledge systems and relationship between people, animals and the land in Mongolia and Italy.
The exhibition also highlights the challenges facing pastoral communities today, including climate change, land fragmentation and rural depopulation, while exploring pastoralism as a living and sustainable way of life for the future.
Coinciding with COP17 to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the United Nations International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists (IYRP), the exhibition invites us to look at pastoralism not simply as a tradition of the past, but as a valuable part of our shared future.
